The Iron turbine story

The Iron Turbine was the FIRST commercially successful ALL-METAL windmill in America.

After being hidden for well over 100 years - this very rare IRON TURBINE windmill Is now the focal point of the IRON TURBINE PUBLIC HOUSE. - Eagle Fork Farms, Moscow Mills, MO. The "Iron Turbine" is considered an “odd duck" among American windmills, not because it was the first all-metal mill to be sold widely, but because of its strange appearance. Instead of having conventional blades, it employs, in their place, "buckets" designed to utilize the power of the wind most efficiently. Most people today would say simply that they were weird looking. Located on December 10, 2018, by Charles Meyer and Steve Mueller. It was likely purchased by G.W.L. Meyer (Charles Meyer’s Great Grandfather) around the mid-1880s. Probably dismantled around the 1920s and put up in the 1800s barn loft you see before you. Steve & Charlie sifted thru 120-year-old dust & debris (and Raccoon droppings) to locate and remove the mill. They had uncovered a large part of it back in 2018. In late April of 2020, they decided to try & locate as many parts as possible and reassemble the Turbine. After hours of researching, head-scratching, and consulting with Windmill experts in the US & Australia, they began putting the puzzle together. Finally, the turbine was assembled and with help from Ryan Dubinski, the HEAVY Turbine was installed on the shaft and the 7ft long tail vane was attached - - This rare "Iron Turbine" mill is an original, intact example of the first mass-produced, all-metal windmill. The mill is highly significant, as it relates to the technical evolution of turbine wheel-type water pumping windmills. - C. W. Meyer, Steve Mueller, Ryan Dubinski - 2022
